Like a fisherman’s favorite spot, affiliate marketers won’t give away their most profitable products, there’s usually some money lost before the right products are found.
The safest approach is to copy what’s working, find the product that gets a lot of paid results in the search engines, examine the sales page the top ads take you to. In clickbank, use the gravity rating to gauge the number of affiliates promoting the product.
There are lots of prospecting techniques, like researching best selling products on amazon.
If you are going the long and slow SEO site approach pick an area you have an interest/passion for, there’s a better chance you won’t tire of writing 100+ post/articles a year.
You can go to affiliate networks like Clickbank or Commission Junction to sign up as an affiliate. There are thousands of products to choose from. These networks allowed you to sort by popularity so you should know what are the hot products to sell. As a newbie, it might be better to stay away those with top 1 rankings as they will be far too competitive.
To make sure you are choosing a good niche, you can go to Google External Keywords tool to see if these are highly searched items.

Also make sure that there is money to be made in your niche. For example, it might not be a good idea to sell an ebook about how to survive in an job interview as such information can be obtained for free on the internet.
In order to choose an affiliate prgoram first decide for yourself for what product you are going to use it.
Make sure the product you choose is of your interest and can be sold easily on the internet.
Make a market search on various affiliate programs through search engines like yahoo.
Figure out the best affiliate program that pays you high commission and is not a scam as well.

You can also choose an affiliate program of your niche.

By far the best affiliate program out there is Revolutionary Matrix. You can only have 5 personal affiliates then everyone else gets spilled over into the second layer and 3rd all the way up to 6 levels deep. So even if you joined and did no advertising whatsoever the people above you and the people above them would be consistently spilling referrals over into your downline. You earn $1 per referral 6 levels deep.

Search around and see what others are promoting. If feeling particularly shrewd you can research on what joe public will want next month so you can get ready now for it..
