What is CPA Advertising? Its fairly simple – CPA Advertising describes “Cost Per Action” advertising. It is advertising in which an advertiser (or affiliate) is paid a commission when someone responding to the advertising placed by the affiliate executes the particular action. This action often consists of entering some kind of personal data into a lead capture form. It could be as simple as a name and email address – or it could be something slightly more involved, such as agreeing to a free trial offer for a product, or downloading some free software.

Online companies need lots of advertising exposure. The primary idea is to have a wide reach and to be in contact with a large group of potential customers. When this is accomplished, the prospective audience for the business gets established, and the marketing efforts can be much more effective.

CPA advertising is rapidly becoming one of the most popular ways of advertising online. CPA can also sometimes be referred to as PPA, or pay per action. Either way, this kind of advertising involves the advertiser receiving a commission every time a visitor completes a particular action at the company’s website after following the link they have provided.

The company determines what kind of action it wants its potential customers complete. The action might be accepting a trial product or service from the company. It might be filling in a response form to get access to information about the service or product offered by the company. It could also be registering at the company’s website. Depending on the action, the advertising payments (or affiliate commissions) will vary.

Once a CPA campaign is set up, the company usually works with a CPA Network, which then pays out a pre-determined commission to the advertiser (affiliate) whenever a potential customer clicks on a website link, provided by the affiliate, to visit the website for information. Once at the site, the prospect must then take the specified action as defined by the requirements of the CPA campaign. This way, the advertising will be attracting a specific kind of attention from the potential customers. It is not really about whether the customer made a purchase or not. Instead it is about how much attention the advertiser can garner for the company. Commissions are paid based on those considerations – the more involved the interactions on the part of the prospect, the higher the commission paid to the advertiser.

With CPA networking, a company can obtain large amounts of traffic to its website, but it will only have to make payment when the desired action is completed by a potential customer. This is the new approach to Corporate Internet marketing.

For a CPA affiliate promoting one of these programs for a company, there is a big advantage compared to conventional affiliate marketing: In standard affiliate marketing, the affiliate doesn’t receive a commission until someone buys something – in other words, is willing and able to spend their money. For the affiliate operating a CPA campaign, however, the barrier to be cleared to earn a commission is lower: someone just has to to agree to provide the requested information, or accept a free trial offer, and the affiliate earns a commission.
